Congrats to all the fighters!

June 13, 2024 by Elias Cepeda in Competition

Last weekend Foundation athletes competed in Kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu to benefit the Deaf Defy organization which helps hearing impaired children impacted by imperial violence.

We were honored to be a co-sponsor of the great event hosted by Mission MMA & Fitness in the West Loop and we’re so proud of how everyone tested themselves! We’ll update with photos and footage from the competition, soon!

Go Watch Your Teammates Fight, June 8! Adult Classes Canceled, Saturday

June 07, 2024 by Elias Cepeda in Competition

Adult classes are canceled Saturday so that coaches can go corner Foundation Chicago members competing at the Deaf Defy charity Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing scrimmage event in the West Loop. We are co-sponsoring this great event to benefit kids with special hearing needs who have also been negatively impacted by empire.

Proceeds from fighter registration as well as spectator tickets go to support the Deaf Defy organization. If you haven’t purchased your ticket to watch, yet, do so here.

The event will take place inside Mission MMA & Fitness at 1620 W. Carroll Ave, Chicago, IL 60612. Kids competitions start at 9am and adult Jiu-Jitsu competitions start at 11:30am, followed by adult kickboxing at 1:30pm.

Since there won’t be adult classes at Foundation Saturday we encourage you to take the opportunity to let your body rest and go watch your teammates compete while supporting a worthy cause. Watching teammates compete is a great way to bond as a group, and it also helps you emotionally prepare for your own future competitions.

Standing Striking Basics - Snap Back to Your Guard

January 29, 2024 by Elias Cepeda in Curriculum

When we’re throwing punches it’s important and useful to use offensive and defensive principles in concert with one another. In many ways the principles that help us with our striking offense also help our striking defense at the same time.

For example, you may know that you should snap your punches out nice and fast when you throw them in order to have a better chance at catching your opponent with your sharp offense. As it turns out, you want to snap your hands and arms back to your own guard (covering your face and body) after throwing your offense just as rapidly as you snapped your punches out.

If we drop our hands low or retract them back to our guard too slowly, we can be timed and countered too easily. Watch the above short instructional and work this during your shadowboxing rounds as well as on the pads, bag, and in sparring!
